Martin Luther King Jr  was one of the greatest American leaders. He was known for his work in
the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s, promoting non-violent protests and fighting for there to be
no colour difference in the world.  

Martin Luther King Jr was born on January 15th 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia.  His father was a Baptist
Minister and his mum was a school teacher. Mr King married Coretta Scott King and they had two
daughters and two sons.

Mr King presented his famous speech he called “I Have A Dream” in Washington DC, 1963.  It was
about the civil rights of coloured people and ending racism in the United States of America. He
made over 2,500 speeches about colour.

In 1964 Mr King won the Honest Peace prize then four years later he was assassinated.   James Earl Ray,
the person who murdered Mr King, was sent to jail for 99 years. He died at the age of 70 and still had
29 years left on his sentence.

Martin Luther King Jr changed the world by stopping segregation. He made the world take notice at
how black people in America were treated.   He was an Agent of Change.
